DANIEL FAST

THE HARVEST

WHAT IS FASTING?

We are delighted that you have decided to participate in THE PURSUIT. This is a corporate time of prayer, fasting, and devotion with Life Worship Center, Inc. of Raleigh, North Carolina. While scripture does not require Christians to fast, scripture does reveal the importance of fasting. Prayer and fasting are essential practices to develop our spiritual lives and to establish a greater level of spiritual sensitivity. Fasting is an opportunity for Christians to practice the fruit of self-discipline, by abstaining from personal pleasure and fixing their entire attention on God. Although many people will choose to abstain from food during their fast, food is not the only means of fasting. Believers can choose to abstain from anything that can potentially serve as a distraction in their PURSUIT of making more room for God.

On this journey you are asked to select the type of fast most meaningful for you. No matter what type of fast you choose, commit to it over the next 21 days. Please take a moment to read the “Before I Get Started” section. As you commit yourself to God over the next 21 days, we pray that you will experience God in both an intimate and extraordinary way. Grow in wisdom and trust God to direct your every path. We hope you feel empowered and equipped with information as we enter THE PURSUIT!

BEFORE YOU START

USE WISDOM even though the Daniel Fast includes a very healthy eating plan. Allow the Great Physician to work hand in hand with your earthly physician. Any time you enter a significant change to your diet and exercise routines, it’s a good idea to check with your health professional for his or her input. If you plan to modify the Daniel Fast eating plan, do it in a way that appropriately meets your health needs. If you have special dietary needs such as any of the following:

  • If you are pregnant or nursing
  • If you have a chronic illness such as cancer or diabetes
  • If you are an athlete in training on a regular basis

PRAY daily during your fast. Praying privately is good but also tried to pray with others on the daily conference line (919) 588-2121.

We will conduct a daily corporate prayer over a conference call telephone line with time permitted for questions and concerns during the 21 days of fasting.

The call begins at 5:00 AM on January 8 -  January 28, 2024 with a designated prayer lead for the day. The conference call will last for approximately 15 min. Conference call information is as follows:

WHAT IF I HAVE A SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST: Please email questions and special prayer request to the following email address: [email protected]

You can also text PRAYER to (919) 756-7933 to submit prayer request.

PLAN

Plan menus, along with your shopping lists each week. Decide what you will eat and not eat during your individual fast. Write some things down in a journal and ask God to help you answer some of your questions.

  • What is the purpose of your fast?
  • When will it begin and end?
  • Have I set up my daily calendar having set times to pray, study, meditate on God’s word?
  • What study and devotional materials will I use to focus on God?
  • How will I eat and relate to friends and family during meals?
  • Will I pack lunches and set aside certain times or days for meal prep?

PREPARE

Prepare before you start the fast let your family know and get their blessing. Start to get your body ready by increasing the amount of water you are drinking and tapering off things like caffeine so that you can go through the withdrawal symptoms of headaches and such before you start the fast. Typically, these symptoms do not last longer than three days. Taking steps to prepare your body will ease the discomfort that will take place when you start the fast.

Fasting can make you irritable when you are hungry so make sure that you are not causing strife at home. Little things like dressing warmer, eating a simple snack with a little protein and fat, or modifying the fast for special occasions can make it less stressful at home.

PARTICIPATE

Participate in the Daniel Fast, corporately sharing in the experience with others to hold you accountable and to encourage you to keep going because it is important. Will there be times when you must forgo the fast and temporarily pause from it? Yes, do everything to maintain your fast but don’t let “legalism” crowd out important family moments or cause health issues to occur.

Wednesdays at 5:00 AM from January 8 -  January 28, 2024. Once the Daniel's Fast is completed corporately, you can still participate in weekly corporate prayer calls on Wednesdays at 6:00 AM.
